Geothermal plant in Icelandby Tommy Kwak

Geothermal tube

Detailed description

Tubes in boreholes, pipes connecting wells, exchangers, joints... all materials subjected to severe tests in a geothermal power plant. In contact with groundwater, they are victims of various types of corrosion: chemical corrosion (the fluid can be loaded with very aggressive mineral salts), galvanic corrosion (caused by the presence of parasitic electric currents), and even bacteriological corrosion (certain bacterial strains — possibly present in the deposit and reactivated by lowering the temperature — increase the corrosion of steel and sulphides, by-products of their metabolism, are corroded. active).

To protect the installation, preventive treatments are applied: injections of inhibitory products to obtain a protective film or avoid crystallization and the formation of deposits, bactericidal products to get rid of microorganisms. This is the case in production wells in the Paris Basin to annihilate the corrosion problems associated with the exploitation of the Dogger aquifer.

Inoxtube supplies the injection tube present in the production well. The latter is equipped with a load bar and an injection head that plunges down to the tube shoe (continuous treatment tube at the bottom of the well).

FAQs about our products

Discover the many advantages of our product or service.

is a hypertempered tube bendable

The term "hypertempered" can be misleading. For stainless steel, it means the tube has undergone a heat treatment to make it more malleable.

Can stainless steel rust?

Contrary to popular belief, stainless steel is more resistant to rust than regular steel, but it can still rust due to external factors like mechanical or chemical exposure.

Is the allowable pressure of a tube constant?

Generally, the permissible pressure is inversely proportional to the operating temperature. You can refer to our tables in our brochure or the technical part of the site for more details.
